Im a used car dealer with about 50 cars on my lot. when business is slow he sit and does nothing ( which he has for three days now). i made him re arrange the lot, put armor all on all the tires, have him start all the cars see if they start if not charge the battery what else can i make him do to keep him busy?Im a used car dealer and when business is slow the car wash guy does nothing what can make him do?
You've got 50 cars on your lot...if he washed only 7 cars per day (1 hour each), it would take him over 7 days to complete washing them all. By that time, you'll have sold some, added new ones and the 7-day old ones will be dirty again. Why not just keep him on a quota system of washing 6-7 cars per day?
If it's raining, you could have him help out in the office doing filing, or the parts department running parts...cleaning up the guest waiting area, sweeping floors, cleaning the windows of the building, emptying trash cans, etc.Im a used car dealer and when business is slow the car wash guy does nothing what can make him do?
Give all the cars a good wash and wax job for all 50 cars. put a scented tree in each car, vacuum all the cars out and armor all the dashes and entire interior. scotch gard the cloth seats and carpet, put rubber mats in all the cars front and back. Clean the windows with windex, and apply rain x so the rain will bead up. change out wiper blades. have him check the fluid levels on all the cars, transmission, oil, washer fluid and brake fluid. And if these jobs are not enough to keep him sufficiently occupied while on your time clock, then have him clean and vacuum the entire office, empty the garbage cans in each cubicle, mow the grass if its needed, shovel walks and the lot in the winter, put down ice melt on the entire parking lot.
With the current financial situation chances are business won't pick up again for quite awhile. Especially with the current standing of the auto industry. I would say you are doing the right thing by just keeping him busy with the odd-jobs around the lot. But eventually you will run out of those things and not have too many things needing to be done, I would only have him work every other day or see if he has any other skills that you could utilize. Hope things work out.
If you can't keep him busy then obviously business is slow for you. If washing your cars is what he does then start a detail car wash business at your dealership. Have him wash other peoples cars so you can make money but give him a percentage so he does a good job and stays motivated. Expand your business!!!
Does he actually clean up the cars or only wash? When we are slow, we ask other dealers (friends) to send over cars for him to clean up. We make extra money and he's not sitting around doing nothing.
Oh you can also send him to pick up parts, titles, call collection (if you finance).
lol I like the idea of advertising, I don't think our employees would do that though, they would go on strike.
As a business owner the answer is quite simple: cut his hours. Have him work three days per week or hire some teen-ager who would love to have a part-time job and is filled with energy; just remember to treat him well and complement him from time to time. Teen-agers like that.
Cheers,
Mr. M. on ';car wash guy';
Maintenance on the property, cleaning, sweeping, etc.
Speaking as someone that manages other people, you should be finding people who don't NEED to be told what to do. They need to be able to find stuff to do on their own, without you guiding them every step of the way.
have him clean the lot..if he has a drivers license make him deliver parts or pick up parts, make him wash the cars. if he still does nothing, then i think u should fire him, and hire a mechanic who is willing to do the extra ***** work your making this kid do...
Stop trying to keep him busy. Look at your business and see what you need. Have him do that. Teach him to sell. Teach him to do parts of YOUR job and use your time to develop your business to make more money.
Make him dress up like a clown and stand at the corner of the street near your store and try to wave people in. I always like to see those guys when I'm driving by, it makes me happy to be me.
perhaps its not feasible on your account, to have him working f/t?
so.. send him home and let him play xbox360 (madden perhaps?)
either that or train him to sell.
When my husbands mobile auto service is slow, he'll drive around passing out fliers and it keeps them busy and brings in more customers.
Sweep the lot and pick up trash. Wash office windows. Vacuum.
I actually think that he's being over-scheduled. Put him on part-time instead of full time employment.
He could teach you something about business management. Or something about organizational behavior.
tell him during the slow times you can't afford him everyday so he can only work 4 days next week.
Now's the time to save money.
Advertise your car wash and cut him in. Both happy and when things pick up you each have someone you can count on.
Make him vacuum the cars, check the oil, stand outside with a sign that says buy a car or sumtin
Check the oil, check tyre pressures, advertise.
Have him stand on the street with a sign advertising your business.
Have him massage your back. There's nothing quite like a nice back massage.
advertise. Give him a sign and stick him on the corner.
Sing and dance to attract customers?
Stand on the road w/ one of those arrows. My boss makes me do all kinds of busy work but, he's gone today :)
just hire a part time guy do his job when you need him
you can make him find pennies you hide under certain tires. that could take a while. try having him clean the office. or mabe paint something
open aother business in car wash, then he'll be busy...
I love a business man.
